If you’ve ever thought about booking a couples session but felt unsure about where it should take place, I want to gently make a case for staying right at home. In-home couples sessions are some of my absolute favorites—and not just because they’re beautiful (they are), but because of how they feel.

They’re slower. More relaxed. More you. And that makes all the difference.

So… what is an in-home couples session like?

Honestly, it’s a lot simpler than people expect. I’ll guide you the entire time, but in a way that feels natural, not stiff or overly posed. You might make coffee together, sit on the couch, dance in the living room, or just talk and laugh like you normally would. I’ll gently direct you when needed, but a lot of the magic comes from the in-between moments. You don’t need to know what you’re doing. You don’t need to know how to pose. You just need to show up as yourselves.

Why choose your home for your session?

Your home is already part of your story. It’s where your everyday life happens—the routines, the quiet moments, the laughter, the connection. And those are the things that end up mattering more and more over time. There’s also a level of comfort that you just can’t recreate anywhere else. You’re not worrying about who’s around you, the weather, or being in an unfamiliar place. You can relax faster. And when you’re relaxed, your photos feel more natural.

“But my house isn’t perfect…”

I hear this all the time and I promise, it doesn’t need to be. I’m always looking for light, connection, and small pockets of space that photograph well. A window, a reading nook, a cozy corner of the couch… that’s truly all we need. You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect home. You just need a space that feels like yours.

What should you wear?

I always help my couples with styling (you’re not on your own here), but in general—think soft, neutral, and comfortable. Outfits that you can move in, cuddle in, and feel like yourself in. Nothing overly trendy or stiff. The goal is timeless and effortless so your photos still feel like you years from now.

Who are these sessions for?

Honestly… anyone. You don’t need to be engaged. You don’t need a special milestone. You don’t need a reason other than wanting to remember this season of your life together. Some couples book sessions to celebrate something big, and others book just because. Both are equally meaningful.

Why these sessions matter

The truth is, most of our days are made up of quiet, ordinary moments. And those are the ones that tend to fade the fastest. In-home sessions give you a way to hold onto them. The way you sit together on the couch. The way you laugh in the kitchen. The way your life looks and feels right now. It may not feel like something you need to document today—but one day, it will.

If you’ve been thinking about a couples session, this is your sign to do it in a way that feels relaxed, meaningful, and true to you. I’d love to photograph your story, right where it’s unfolding.
